When this happens, it can affect your mood and knock you out of balance. Simple, safe rituals can help reset your energy and bring you back to a calm, centered state. Candle rituals are especially effective because the flame represents light, transformation, and purification. When used with clear intention, a candle can act as a focal point for releasing energy that no longer serves you.
Simple rituals like this work because they bring your attention, intention, and energy into alignment. The candle itself is not doing the work alone, it acts as a focal point that helps you consciously release what you no longer wish to carry. Even small moments of intentional release can make a noticeable difference in how you feel energetically.
The ritual below is very pure, simple, and focused on intention. You do not need elaborate tools, methodology or complicated preparation. A quiet moment, clear intention, and a single candle are enough. |
Preparing for the Candle Ritual
All you need for this ritual is a white candle of any size. I personally prefer white candles because of their pure energy, intention, and high vibration. White light naturally clears, uplifts, and restores balance. I recommend using a small votive candle, as it will safely burn out within a few hours. You can perform this ritual at any time. However, some people enjoy doing it during certain moon phases:
Before beginning, take a moment to create a calm and sacred atmosphere. Place your candle in a safe space where it can burn undisturbed. You may also choose to add something meaningful to your space that represents your intention. This is completely optional, but it can deepen the experience.

Black candles are sometimes used in ritual practices to banish negativity or provide protection. In some traditions they are associated with absorbing or dispelling unwanted energy. Black can also symbolize the void and deeper aspects of the unconscious mind. However, my personal approach is different.

Rather than focusing on darkness or banishing negativity with old, outdated or convoluted methods, I prefer to focus on amplifying light and higher vibration. When the energy of light is strengthened, lower energies naturally dissolve and fall away. Working this way keeps the focus on purity, Source light, and positive transformation. It allows the clearing process to happen in a gentle and energetically balanced way.
That said, the most important factor is always your intention and what you are naturally drawn to in the moment. You should choose the candle color that feels most aligned for you and I always advocate for approaching any spiritual ritual in a pure, mindful way, with honest intent that harms no other, and from an ethical state of mind.

Once you feel calm and ready, begin the ritual. It is important that you feel relaxed and at ease, so you can do this with a sense of connection and mindfulness. that energy will also add to the intention and whole process.
If you like, you can invite in whatever spiritual support you feel aligned with and that is safe, such as: God, Jesus Christ, your angels and guides, Archangel Michael for clearing and protection, Archangel Raphael for healing, benevolent ancestors.
Light the candle safely while holding a clear intention for what you wish to release. For example, you might say quietly or internally:
“May I be released from all negative energy affecting me right now.”
Or: “Please clear me of any energy connected to [person or situation] that is affecting me.”

I personally don't feel like you need it to burn to the end, though do so if you feel.
