WHAT IS 'SPIRITUAL AWAKENING'?
In the literal sense, to 'awaken' means waking up, physically, as in coming out of the sleep state and back to a wakeful state of consciousness. However you can awaken in many ways.
You might have a spiritual awakening, where you wake up spiritually - you may have some kind of enlightened moment, mystical experience or series of happenings. It can involve higher truths and understanding of things. For some it is fleeting, for others longer lasting.
In an even higher sense, awakening can mean waking up from the reality that we are living in a dream within a dream'- and that our reality is really an illusion and not quite as it appears. An extension of this is waking up about the greater reality of the world and confronting truths about the nefarious workings going on currently and throughout history. This includes the chaos, deceit, corruption, lies and selfish plans and actions of groups of people who we can refer to as "the powers that be' - people who are in positions of control and power as well as working from behind the scenes. This is about the political, monetary, corporate and societal structures of control in our world. This article is about spiritual awakening.
Spiritual awakening is waking up from the every day slumber of our lower selves and the lower world, and attuning (even if for just a moment of time), to something higher and more magical, meaningful and profound.
When one starts to have ongoing awakening experiences, you can say that they are on the 'path'. Things start to open up as they wake up more and more. They might go through a series of heightened experiences filled with signs and serendipitous synchronicities.
Awakening Through a Wake Up Call
Awakening is often ignited through a wake up call such as loss of job, break up, death, illness, accident, injury or mishap such as a broken foot. This 'inconvinience' causes you to stop, pause, rest and receive what the universe is wanting to get through to you!

The Questioning of Reality
The stage or aspect of awakening where you start to question reality pretty much means 'waking up' from the illusion, you find yourself having a shift of consciousness, or a newly evolving or more heightened perception of 'reality'.
You begin to realise things, and put the pieces of life together in a way that has a deeper, higher , ore profound spiritual meaning and resonance.
You start to question one or all aspects of 'reality' and realize that life is not what you thought it was, but a dream within a dream. It is quite an existential experience, and can culminate in a more expansive view on life, and the deeper understanding that we are all connected, that there is a truth of the 'oneness' of all existence , rather than division and separateness.
Awakening is also like an expansion and a 'heightening.' Everything begins to feel more alive, vibrant and different. That is because you are experiencing heightened senses and a multi-dimensional awareness on some level. Things start to 'click' as you become a part of all, your intuition opens up and you start to listen to your inner guidance and wisdom.

Over the course of this planet’s evolution, there have been spiritually evolved souls (Master Teachers) who have contributed in a great way towards the concept of awakening – most notably Jesus Christ and Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha), though there are many more to have walked earth’s soil with great wisdom and compassion, generously imparting sacred messages of love, truth and divinity.
Right now we are experiencing huge shifts of consciousness upon the planet with many 'waking up'... We are individually and collectively entering a new paradigm. A transformation. Have you noticed anything 'different' in recent years? Even the 'new children' being birthed on our planet this millennium have a more soulful energy and come as teachers - have you experienced this?
And out there in the real world, as more of us awaken and step into our power and purpose, the more we step into the new paradigm and potential that energies are pushing us towards. This means that people are becoming more eneregtcially sensitiveand open, and it is easier to feel energies that you couldnt feel before, and you are having more spiritual experiences.

Those Paving the Path...
You will see that our favourite tv personality and spirituality advocate Oprah Winfrey is dedicating whole seasons on 'waking up' through her Masterclass and Super Soul Sunday shows, featuring progressive, consciously 'aware' actors and transformational mind-body-spirit authors. She is a major activate for 'new thought theory'. Jim Carrey and Russell Brand are other examples of celebs who have 'woken up', and 'speak up' about it! And there are many books on the topic, such as Eckhart Tolle's powerful, on point and thought-provoking book: "A New Earth".
There are some who walk this earth as highly awakened, or awakening souls. They trust in their inner spirit and follow the guidance of their heart. They step into action and fulfil their soul's purpose. These wise old souls are the forerunners of a new consciousness emerging on earth. They shine their lights and walk in their own truth and light, touching many who cross their path. They do not see themselves as 'better' or 'higher' than others, and do not wish to be worshipped or idolized. Rather, they simply 'be'. Amongst these are lightworkers.
And in their pure essence, presence and authenticity; they inspire, bless, touch and heal. They are the wayshowers, the seed throwers, and they speak a higher truth that you can feel in your bones that is heartfelt, resonating and real. They recognize, honour, and speak to your soul without ego or artifice. They do their inner work and dedicate their lives to serving God by allowing themselves to be conduits of the Divine, through which they be of service. It is a calling, a quiet, steadfast voice, and an intense inner knowing that guides them on this path.
I believe John F Kennedy was an awakened soul, and there are definitely unexplained mysteries surrounding his death. In his own words,
"Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures."
Are you, too, an old soul awakening? It is never too late to step on your path and enter your Divine calling.
